Company history from 1959 into the millennium

  • 1959
The company was originally formed in 1959 as Casolith London Ltd. Casolith London also acted as an importer for continuous Cast Acrylic which is where our production of number plate components first started. It was the characteristics and quality of this product which enabled us to machine this material into the application for Vehicle Registration Plates for the first time against the traditional embossed aluminium product.
  • 1978
Parent company changes led to the management buyout of Casolith London Ltd followed by a name change in 1982 to Silwood Plastics Ltd. The new name came from our address at the time Silwood Street in South London
  • 1988
After a decade of growth we moved into our first London warehouse of 6,000 square foot. By 1991 we had outgrown this site and moved onto a 29,000 square foot site also in South London. As well as producing number plate components we were well known for being an importer and distributor of sheet plastics offering cut to size with extensive beamsaw facilities.
  • 1998
With two full decades of growth behind the company the bold decision was made to relocate the business from London to a brand new 11,500 square foot site in Brackley Northamptonshire. Brackley was chosen as a Logistic Centre for this sector’s customer base and was also the Group Administration Centre.
  • 2000
In the year 2000 we saw further diversion from sheet distribution into manufacturing increasing the operational base of Silwood Group to a further two business premises making our Brackley facility in excess of 55,000 square feet.
  • 2017
Silwood made the decision in 2017 to investigate other sectors they could work with which would complement their existing business. The UK Marine Market was an area that Silwood identified would benefit from the high level of service, experience and expertise they had gained in manufacturing components for the automotive Industry.King Starboard as an established quality product required within the marine Industry was highlighted by Silwood’s on many occasions during their research as being required due to its superb compatibility and unique properties for marine applications.Silwood identified a lack of product availability therefore Silwood met with the sole exporter Brunger Export and it was agreed that the Silwood Group would become the UK distributor for King Starboard marine products.Silwood Marine was then launched as part of the Silwood Group and we are excited by the markets acceptance to date and the application opportunities that we are developing with King Starboard as part of our stock range and our bespoke onsite manufacturing facilities.
